BETTER BORROW APP

case study

The Challenge

Tracking Borrowed & Loaned Items

People frequently lend and borrow items—books, tools, gadgets—but keeping track of these exchanges is a major pain point. Who has my drill? When did I lend out my favorite novel? These simple questions often go unanswered, leading to lost possessions, strained relationships, and unnecessary replacements. Without a structured system, managing borrowed and loaned items becomes frustrating and unreliable.

The Solution

A Smart Borrowing & Lending Tracker

I designed a mobile app that simplifies the process of tracking personal item exchanges. Through user research, I uncovered key frustrations: lack of reminders, forgotten loans, and poor visibility into past transactions. Addressing these, I designed an intuitive app that enables users to:

  • Log items they’ve lent or borrowed with details like due dates.
  • Set automated reminders to prevent forgotten returns.
  • Maintain a clear transaction history for better accountability.
  • Use smart notifications to nudge users about overdue items.

By focusing on a seamless user experience, I ensured that interactions were effortless, making tracking second nature rather than a chore.

My Role

Driving UX Strategy & Design Execution

I led the end-to-end design process, from research to high-fidelity UI, ensuring a user-centered approach throughout. My contributions included:

  • User Research & Insights – Conducted interviews to identify pain points and opportunities.
  • Experience & Interaction Design – Created wireframes, user flows, and interactive prototypes.
  • Visual & UI Design – Designed a polished interface with a clean, intuitive aesthetic.
  • Usability Testing & Iteration – Validated design decisions through feedback loops.

Impact & Takeaways

Even in early usability tests, users expressed excitement about how the app could save them time and prevent lost items. The project reinforced the importance of habit-forming design, seamless onboarding, and contextual reminders to drive engagement.
